SUMMARY

Poisons affect the body through various chemical mechanisms that disrupt normal physiological functions. Toxicology is the scientific study of these effects, encompassing the analysis of how different substances interact with biological systems. Understanding the chemical properties of poisons, such as their molecular structure and reactivity, is crucial for comprehending their lethal effects. Resources like online toxicology courses can provide in-depth knowledge on this subject.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of chemistry concepts, particularly molecular structure.
  • Familiarity with toxicology principles and terminology.
  • Knowledge of physiological processes in the human body.
  • Experience with research tools for scientific literature, such as Google Scholar.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the chemical mechanisms of specific poisons, such as cyanide and arsenic.
  • Explore online toxicology courses to gain structured knowledge.
  • Study the physiological effects of poisons on human systems.
  • Learn about antidotes and their chemical interactions with toxins.
USEFUL FOR

Students in chemistry and toxicology, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in understanding the chemical impacts of poisons on the human body.

I was just curious as to why poisons kill people, in terms of the chemistry aspect included in it. There was a distance course for grade 12 chemistry that had a topic on poinsons and it sparked my interest.

So could someone explain it a bit?
