SUMMARY

The conversion of cubic centimeters (cm³) to cubic meters (m³) is established by recognizing that 1 cm equals 0.01 m. To convert 5.43 x 10^6 cm³ to m³, the calculation involves multiplying by the conversion factor of (0.01 m/1 cm)³, resulting in 5.43 m³. An alternative method simplifies the process by directly applying the exponent rules, yielding the same result without intermediate steps. The discussion clarifies the correct interpretation of the original value and confirms the accuracy of the conversion.

How many cubic meters are in 5.43 x 10^6 cm^3?

There are .001 meters in the centimeter.
m= meter cm= centimeter

This is what I did:

5.43 x 10^6 cm^3 (.01m/1 cm)^3

And then did the calculations, which gave me:

.0000043 x 10^6 m^3 or 4.3 m^3.

Not sure if I set up the equation correctly or if I solved it properly. Thank you for your help.

What happened to the "5"? Was that a typo? I presume you meant "5.43 m^3".

A slightly simpler way to do this is, instead of multiplying the 5.43 by (.01)^3= .000001 and then incorporating it into the 10^6, to directly multiply (.01)^3= (10^-2)^3= 10^-6 by 10^6 to get just "5.43 x10^(6-6)= 5.43 x 10^0= 5.43m"
