How do you measure flower widths and petal sizes for research?

In what way can people get the width of flowers and sizes of petals for research ? I just wonder how that can be done, thank you

Personally, I'd recommend a tape measure, but some botany textbooks might have information on the average size of a plant.

My botany book doesn't contain any information on that, but only about different kinds of trees on planet and how they are classified, instead.

Books on plant taxonomy usually have information regarding dimensions of leaves, flowers and other distinguishing plant parts.

I would check your library to find taxonomy books that cover your location..
