How do you determine the volume of an irregularly shaped object that floats?

I thought that maybe the object can pushed or submerged under water as long as the object exerting the pressure does not enter the water. Is this correct, or this any other way to measure it?
thanks

Hi Jason,

There are a few different ways to calculate the volume of an irregularly shaped object that floats. One way is to use the displacement method, where you measure the volume of water displaced when the object is submerged. This method works well for objects that are completely submerged, but may not be accurate for objects that partially float.

Another method is to use a mathematical formula to calculate the volume based on the dimensions of the object. This may require more precise measurements and may not be as accurate if the object has a complex shape.

As for your suggestion of pushing or submerging the object, this could potentially work but may not be the most accurate method. It's important to make sure that the object is completely submerged and not creating any additional pressure on the water's surface. Additionally, this method may not work for objects that are very buoyant and have a tendency to pop back up to the surface.

In summary, there are a few different methods for calculating the volume of an irregularly shaped object that floats. It may be best to use a combination of methods or consult with a professional if you need an accurate measurement for a specific purpose. I hope this helps!
