Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around multiplying large numbers expressed in scientific notation, specifically the multiplication of three terms: 2.573x10^13, 6.58x10^-5, and 7.0732x10^11.

Discussion Character

  • Mathematical reasoning, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants explore the process of rounding during multiplication, with one suggesting rounding before obtaining the final result and another advocating for rounding after. There is also a question regarding the correctness of a final answer derived from the multiplication.

Discussion Status

The discussion includes attempts to clarify the appropriate timing for rounding in calculations involving scientific notation. Some participants express uncertainty about their previous calculations and seek validation of their reasoning.

Contextual Notes

One participant mentions a gap in their education, which may influence their current understanding of the topic. There is also a light-hearted comment about the relevance of orders of magnitude in a different field of study.

here's my answer 120x10^19=1.20x10^17

I would round-off AFTER I get the final result for the power of ten.

BTW, your final answer is incorrect.

120x1019 = (1.20x102)x1019 = ___ ?

Ah, because in commerce two orders of magnitude doesn't matter? :devil:
