The discussion centers around the timeline and feasibility of achieving Full Dive Virtual Reality, a concept involving the complete immersion of consciousness in a virtual environment. Participants explore various predictions and the unpredictability of technological advancements in this area.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests that Full Dive Virtual Reality may be available in 200 to 300 years.
  • Another participant argues that predicting the timeline for such technology is nearly impossible, citing historical examples of technological advancements.
  • A third participant references Ray Kurzweil's prediction of 2045 as the year when humans will merge with computers and achieve The Singularity, noting that this view is not universally accepted.
  • A later reply indicates that discussions about Kurzweil's predictions are not welcome in this forum.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing opinions on the timeline for Full Dive Virtual Reality, with no consensus reached on the feasibility or specific predictions regarding its arrival.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions about technological progress and definitions of Full Dive Virtual Reality remain unexamined, and the discussion reflects a range of speculative timelines without resolution.

I am obsessed with the development of the Full Dive Virtual Reality (transporting your consciousness to a virtual world, such as Sword Art Online).
I believe this technology may be available at around 200 to 300 years. How long do you think it will take us, if at all?

We will know when we have it. It is almost impossible to predict such a developement. When Star Trek started there were no objections about interstellar space travel but about the communicators. Now we have satellite phones but not even interplanetary travel.

2045! That's when Ray Kurzweil predicted that we will merge with our computers and create The Singularity.

Not everyone agrees with this prediction, though.

Sorry, but we don't discuss Kurzweil here.
