SUMMARY

To prevent an indoor swing from spinning while allowing it to swing back and forth, the use of a single contact point is insufficient. The discussion suggests considering the installation of two hooks in the ceiling for stability. Alternatively, replacing the chain with a rigid rod or utilizing an anti-twist cable can effectively eliminate unwanted spinning. These solutions ensure that the swing remains oriented in one direction while still providing the desired swinging motion.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of swing mechanics and motion dynamics.
  • Familiarity with ceiling mounting techniques.
  • Knowledge of materials like rigid rods and anti-twist cables.
  • Basic skills in home improvement and installation.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the installation process for dual ceiling hooks for swings.
  • Explore the properties and benefits of rigid rods for swing support.
  • Investigate anti-twist cable options and their installation methods.
  • Learn about swing safety standards and best practices for indoor installations.
USEFUL FOR

Homeowners, parents setting up indoor swings, and DIY enthusiasts looking to enhance swing safety and functionality.

I am hanging an indoor swing. The swing hangs from ropes and the ropes are attached to a single chain hooked into the ceiling. I want the swing to "swing back and forth" but I do not want the swing to "spin" around -- I want it to face in one direction. Is there something I can do to stop the spin if I only have one contact point in the ceiling? Something I can attach to the chain?

If you have only a single contact point and your connection is flexible (rope) then I don't see how that could be possible. Do you HAVE to have just a single contact point? If you can put one hook in the ceiling, why not two?

You could try using a rigid rod instead of the chain.

or use an anti-twist cable instead of a chain (do a web search for these).
