Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around methods to prevent an indoor swing from spinning while allowing it to swing back and forth. Participants explore potential solutions given that the swing is attached to a single contact point in the ceiling.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about options to stop the swing from spinning while maintaining a single attachment point in the ceiling.
  • Another participant questions the necessity of having only one contact point and suggests that using two hooks might be a viable alternative.
  • A suggestion is made to use a rigid rod instead of a chain to potentially limit spinning.
  • Another participant proposes the use of an anti-twist cable as a solution, recommending further research on this option.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants present multiple competing views on how to address the issue, with no consensus reached on a definitive solution.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not address the feasibility of implementing the suggested solutions or any specific limitations related to the swing's design or installation.

I am hanging an indoor swing. The swing hangs from ropes and the ropes are attached to a single chain hooked into the ceiling. I want the swing to "swing back and forth" but I do not want the swing to "spin" around -- I want it to face in one direction. Is there something I can do to stop the spin if I only have one contact point in the ceiling? Something I can attach to the chain?

If you have only a single contact point and your connection is flexible (rope) then I don't see how that could be possible. Do you HAVE to have just a single contact point? If you can put one hook in the ceiling, why not two?

You could try using a rigid rod instead of the chain.

or use an anti-twist cable instead of a chain (do a web search for these).
