In summary, this new comet is a sun grazer, and it may be bigger than comet neat from 2003. More information about it will be available in the next few days.

This new comet is a sun grazer, remember comet neat in 2003? It was is almost 2 times the size of jupiter..

This one may be bigger, but there is no comet tail, why?
More about this when it gets closer to the sun, 2 or 3 days?

How do you know that's a comet and not, say, Venus?

I see no entry for that picture on that link. Could you copy and paste the entry in that log you think applies?
Myan predictions dec 21 2012...
Please note: the 2012 conspiracy theory is a banned subject here. It is pure crackpot nonsense and we won't feed it.

Looking at a sky map via Starry Night, I find that Venus is about 6 degrees west of the sun right now. The FOV of that telescope is 16 degrees. Therefore: Venus!

what are u talking about I am talking about astronomy...

The refrence is to a calander, very usful for predicting usfull astronomy.
and to show what evidence we can support the obviouse.
venus would appeare as a tiny dot next to the sun, unlike the photo.

Take a look here http://lasco-www.nrl.navy.mil/images/C3_desc.html" [Broken]
This shows how big Venus appears.

That is Venus in the most current shot just entering the frame!

The comparison photo of comet neat is how I made the comparison.
comet neat is almost twice the size of jupiter, in comparison the latest photo above left represents somthing at least that size, if not bigger.

A binary star?

latest photos.

The activity of solar flare you see here confirms a new solar cycle has begun.

Question answered, thread locked.

What is the significance of the huge comet seen on the SOHO web page?

The huge comet seen on the SOHO web page is significant because it provides valuable information about the composition and behavior of comets in our solar system.

How was the huge comet captured on the SOHO web page?

The huge comet was captured by the LASCO (Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph) instrument on the SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) satellite. LASCO is specifically designed to observe the solar corona and detect comets passing near the sun.

What can we learn from studying the huge comet on the SOHO web page?

Studying the huge comet on the SOHO web page can provide insights into the formation and evolution of comets, as well as their interactions with the solar wind and the sun's magnetic field. It can also help us understand the potential hazards of comets to Earth.

Is the huge comet seen on the SOHO web page a threat to Earth?

No, the huge comet seen on the SOHO web page is not a threat to Earth. It is passing by the sun at a safe distance and does not pose any danger to our planet.

Can I see the huge comet without using the SOHO web page?

No, the huge comet seen on the SOHO web page is not visible to the naked eye. It can only be observed through specialized instruments like those on the SOHO satellite.
