AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on selecting the appropriate hydraulic cylinders for a liftgate conveyor system that requires a 90-degree rotation of a 500-pound section. Key considerations include the positioning of hinge pins and cylinder ends, which are critical for sizing the cylinders effectively. The proposed setup involves a two-stage system with a 3hp motor capable of delivering 1500-3000 psi. Participants emphasize the necessity of ensuring that the cylinder can rotate slightly during operation. Accurate specifications of hinge and cylinder pin positions are essential for determining the optimal hydraulic solution.

TL;DR Summary
hydraulic requirements for liftgate actuators/cylinders
Hello everyone and thanks for any and all feedback!
I am looking for help with a hydraulic system for a liftgate conveyor I will be installing for a customer. The conveyor is 10" in length and 3' wide but the liftgate portion is only 7' long. The approx. weight of the 7' section 500lbs. My questions is what hydraulic cylinders would i need to rotate/lift the 7' section 90 degrees?

What hydraulic pressure will always be available.
The position of the pins at the hinges and cylinder ends will be critical.
The cylinder must be free to rotate slightly during operation.

Im thinking a 2 stage, 3hp 1500-3000psi set up

So you always have 3000 psi available ?

Where is the hinge pin relative to the frame and moving belt ?

I don’t have a pump picked yet but I can have whatever is needed. The hinges are in the side of the frame and I will mount the cylinder/s below and inside the frame rails of the conveyor

You must first specify the position of the hinge pin and the cylinder end pins.
Only then can you size the cylinder.

Thread 'I need a concave mirror with a focal length length of 150 feet'
I need to cut down a 3 year old dead tree from top down so tree causes no damage with small pieces falling. I need a mirror with a focal length of 150 ft. 12" diameter to 36" diameter will work good but I can't think of any easy way to build it. Nothing like this for sale on Ebay. I have a 30" Fresnel lens that I use to burn stumps it works great. Tree service wants $2000.
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
