SUMMARY

The discussion centers around the feasibility of a space-time pumping machine as a faster-than-light (FTL) propulsion theory. The original poster seeks concrete scientific evidence regarding the movement of space-time at FTL speeds, referencing the Star Trek franchise as an unreliable source. Participants clarify that space-time itself does not move, rendering the inquiry fundamentally flawed. The thread concludes with a reminder that personal theories are not suitable for this forum focused on mainstream science.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of general relativity and its implications on space-time.
  • Familiarity with faster-than-light (FTL) concepts in theoretical physics.
  • Knowledge of the distinction between science fiction and established scientific theories.
  • Awareness of the limitations of personal theories in scientific discourse.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of general relativity and how they relate to space-time.
  • Explore theoretical frameworks surrounding faster-than-light travel, such as warp drives and wormholes.
  • Study the scientific community's stance on personal theories versus peer-reviewed research.
  • Investigate the role of science fiction in shaping public perception of scientific concepts.
USEFUL FOR

Inventors, science fiction writers, and enthusiasts interested in the intersection of theoretical physics and creative innovation.

I consider myself a science fiction inventor. I have recently theorized a space-time pumping machine and want to use it as a faster than light propulsion theory. I really like to make my inventions very close to real physics and wonder if anybody knows concretely whether space-time can move faster than light. Please. I know that the new Star Trek movie mentions that space-time can be thought as something that is moving, hence Scotty's Trans-warp beaming but I don't consider Star-Trek a credible reference scource. Can anybody help?

PF is not for discussion of personal theories, it's for discussion of mainstream science.

Spacetime doesn't move at all, so your question doesn't make sense.

You're right, it isn't. Thread closed.
