Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the calculation of GPA in relation to letter grades, specifically whether an A+ with a score of 100 is considered higher than an A+ with a score of 97. The scope includes conceptual understanding of GPA calculations and the implications of different percentage scores within the same letter grade.

Discussion Character

  • Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants explain that GPA is calculated based on letter grades, with A+ consistently equating to a specific point value (5.00), regardless of the percentage score.
  • One participant asserts that the actual percentage score does not influence the GPA calculation, emphasizing that an A+ is treated the same as any other A+ in GPA terms.
  • Another participant reiterates that the GPA reflects the letter grade alone, dismissing the relevance of the percentage scores of 100 and 97.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that GPA is determined by letter grades and that the specific percentage scores do not affect the GPA calculation. However, the initial question about the comparison of A+ scores indicates some level of confusion or debate about the implications of these scores.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not address potential variations in GPA calculation methods across different educational institutions, which may affect interpretations of the question.

I looked at my report card and saw the g.p.a. was calculated with what letter grade you get(All AP A+ = 5.00, all AP A = 4.6666, all AP A- =4.3333, etc.) but g.p.a. stands for grade point average which is the score in your grade like a 94 is A, 97 is A+, 92 is A-, 71 is C-, etc. so if it averages out by points would a all 100's yield a higher g.p.a. than a all 97's even though there both a A+?

no.

your gpa will olny reflect the letter grade

Nope. An A is an A, an A+ is an A+ etc.

The actual percentage plays no part in calculating a conventional GPA.
