AI Thread Summary
A Manitowoc couple has completed the challenging journey of boating America's Great Loop, a 6,000-mile trek that is considered rarer than climbing Mount Everest. Their route included significant waterways such as the Great Lakes, Mississippi River, Gulf of Mexico, and Atlantic Ocean. There is a discussion about whether the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) was adequately represented in their journey, with some suggesting it was likely used given the couple's choice of a trawler, which is better suited for calmer waters. The importance of staying inshore or using the ICW to experience various interesting locations is emphasized. This accomplishment highlights the adventurous spirit of boating enthusiasts.

Shouldn't you have included the Intracoastal Waterway somehow?
That would be included in the Gulf of Mexico, Florida Keys, Atlantic Ocean. I could have mentioned that they include the Intracoastal Waterway, but I don't know how much of the trip involved the IW. They might have sailed offshore for much of the time.

They probably did at every opportunity since it is a trawler. These are primarily flat water boats that roll considerably in a seaway. They would take it offshore only if sea conditions were favorable. Besides you only get to see all those interesting places if you stay inshore or in the ICW.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
