SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the relationship between inertia and the Higgs mechanism. It concludes that inertia is more fundamental than the Higgs mechanism, as particles can possess mass independently of it. Specifically, the mass of protons is primarily attributed to factors other than the Higgs mechanism. This distinction clarifies that while the Higgs mechanism explains the mass of certain particles, it does not account for the fundamental nature of inertia.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the Higgs mechanism in particle physics
  • Basic knowledge of mass-energy equivalence and relativity
  • Familiarity with the structure of protons and their mass composition
  • Concept of fundamental forces in physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the role of the Higgs boson in particle mass generation
  • Study the relationship between mass and inertia in classical mechanics
  • Explore the composition of protons and the contributions to their mass
  • Investigate alternative theories of mass beyond the Higgs mechanism
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, students of particle physics, and anyone interested in the fundamental principles of mass and inertia in the context of modern physics.

Hi.

Mass of some particle is explained by Higgs mechanism.
Is inertia also explained by Higgs mechanism? Inertia increases when a particle is in motion by relativity. Is this increase of energy is explained by Higgs mechanism? More tight binding with Higgs particle when a paricle is moving?

Regards.

No, inertia is more fundamental than the Higgs mechanism. One way to see this is that particles can have mass without the Higgs mechanism: for instance, most of the mass of the proton is not from the Higgs mechanism.
