SUMMARY

The discussion clarifies the correct usage of the terms "integrable" and "integratable" in the context of mathematical integration. While "integrable" is widely accepted, "integratable" is also deemed correct. Participants suggest using Google search techniques to verify spelling and usage frequency, emphasizing the importance of context and regional variations in language. The method involves searching for the term in quotes, comparing results, and considering field-specific keywords for accuracy.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of mathematical integration concepts
  • Familiarity with language and spelling conventions
  • Basic knowledge of search engine optimization techniques
  • Experience with online research methodologies
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the differences between "integrable" and "integratable" in mathematical literature
  • Learn advanced Google search techniques for verifying terminology
  • Explore regional language variations in technical writing
  • Study best practices for technical authorship and language precision

If a quantity can be integrated is it integrable or integratable? (/integrateable?)

Please verify my spelling if possible!

cheers, b.

most people say "capable of being integrated," but integrable is also correct.

Edit: dang, too slow!

thanks guys

To check the spelling convention when you're not sure, try this.

1. In G**gle, or your favourite browser, type your mystery word in quotes, and then hit [Enter]. This makes it search on your exact spelling only. Look to see how many pages it finds with that spelling.
2. Now try a different spelling. (It may even suggest an alternative to search). Again, check the page count. What you are looking for is the commonest spelling.
3. Repeat (2) if necessary, for another possible spelling.

Note:
4. There may be regional variations. For example, if you want the UK spelling, add uk in the G**gle search box, (but not within the quotes), and select the pages from the UK selector.
5. You may want to check within a technological or scientific field, so include a likely keyword that would narrow the search to that field only.

As a Technical Author, I have used this method for some years, and it works!

Good hunting.
