Yes, it is Okay to choose embedded systems. I have tremendous respect for the people who design and build this stuff.

Look into instrumentation firms such as Endress and Hauser, Rosemount (a division of Emerson these days), Fluke, Invensys Foxboro, and many others. You may also be curious about companies such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens Energy Automation, and Schneider Modicon. The list is long.

I have no idea how much they're hiring these days, but it's worth a look.
