Her work is really good, Evo. Is she being modest saying that she thinks she doesn't have talent? Because it's beyond evident that she does.

Since her first artwork at 18 months, she's always been a traditional medium artist. She could not be stopped, it was all she did all day, every day. Her first grade teacher told us that art was her life, a prediction that seems to be coming true.

While she's confident in her traditional artistic ability, she never believed she could become a digital/computer artist, she didn't think she was talented enough. I say baloney.

Also, I need to get more examples.

Her modesty doesn't surprise me at all. People who sing their own praises are usually the only ones who do so.

Are thse oil based, or just pencil drawings?

I'm no expert but to parapharse, "I can't tell you what good art looks like, but I know it when I see it."

FWIW, My aunt was a professional artist, with her own gallery, and these are on par with the stuff she used to produce.

Then again, it's so subjective anyways, who can say? Plus it's scanned. Still, it looks like she has some talent.

She's 26... it's hard to be confident at 26 if I remember correctly. I agree with you, that especially given the use of traditional mediums this is very impressive, but until she decides for herself that such is the case... what others say can only be partially effective.

Evo, those pictures are beautiful. What, in your opinion, would it take to convince her that she's misjudging her ability?

I would say that she is every bit as talented as she needs to be professional. The only issue is her ability to pump out work quickly or on demand. I had wanted to be an artist but I found that my good work took a lot of time and effort to be decent enough for display. As long as she has a muse on meth I would say she can market her talent. She may want to consider a proper art or commercial art school (be wary of corporate owned art schools, I worked for one and it was garbagee on a stick). Everyone wants to be an artist, most of the pros come out of high end art schools that weed out all the rabble.

I have a good friend who is a professional artist (oil on canvas), who sells in galleries and directly (i.e. not a "dogs playing poker" or "elvis on velvet" artist). I showed her the pics you posted, and her response was that it's amazing for someone her age to have such a grasp of the human facial structure, and expressions. She said more, but it would be rambling... the bottom line is that really, your daughter should be proud of her talent, and confident in her work. It's a rare talent to be able to produce art that isn't schlock; a face that conveys real emotion, and shadows and shading that work... she must realize that?

Hmmm is it just me or do these paintings look very digital? Maybe it's because of the amount of time I spend looking at and completing digital works but these look computer done. If not then I'm even more impressed.
