I've only run away from two animals in the woods. A skunk that I encountered in the dark (don't ask), and a bear cub (never got around to seeing the mama bear).

someone in my DofE group got chased by a horse. that shortcut probably wasn't the best idea, but exquisite in terms of entertainment value
