The discussion revolves around the effectiveness of the Emery Cat scratching board, which claims to help cats file their claws while they scratch. Participants share their experiences with the product, noting mixed results among their cats. Some cats, like Isaac, quickly adapted to the board, showing frequent use and resulting in shorter, duller claws. Others, however, displayed little interest, leading to concerns about whether the horizontal design appeals to cats' natural scratching instincts, which often favor vertical surfaces. The scratching board's construction, made of coated cardboard, raises questions about durability and comfort for cats' paws. Some owners express skepticism about the product's claims and discuss alternative scratching solutions, including the use of belt sanders for DIY options. Overall, while some cats benefit from the Emery Cat board, its effectiveness varies significantly, and durability remains a concern. Participants are interested in long-term results and whether the product justifies its cost.

I have this exact model for my cat and he plays with it daily! The cardboard middle for scratching is holding up quite well too.

I've seen those in the store, but have avoided them. I wasn't really sure if Ember would play with the ball. Seeing how she uses her other scratchers, I figured she'd be more likely to try dumping the thing upside down to shake the ball out, and then being bigger than a regular scratcher, I would then probably trip over it.

It worked great for the 1 out of 5 that would use it.
