Just a non-mathematician looking for help from pros

Hello all,

I'm an attorney (and SF fan). At the moment I'm just trying to get an answer to what to the mathematicians here might be a simple question but for me is over my head. However, I am glad I found this site in general as I've been trying to follow the hard science/math in some of my favorite Sci Fi/Fantasy novels (e.g. The Science of Discworld, which has me on wikipedia looking up Schrodinger's Cat or Neutron Stars or what have you every other page) and I suspect at least some folks here would be interested in discussing it even if some of it is only theoretical or partially pie in the sky stuff.

Hello everyone, I'm Cosmo. I'm an 18 years old student majoring in physics. I found this forum cause I was searching on Google if it's common for physics student to feel like they're in the wrong major in the first semester cause it feels like too much for me to learn the materials even the ones that are considered as "basic math" or "basic physics", I've initial fascination with the universe's mysteries and it disconnect with the reality of intense, foundational mathematics courses required...
