Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the importance of geometry and trigonometry in learning physics, particularly for someone who has a background in algebra and is seeking resources to study geometry in preparation for advanced physics. The scope includes recommendations for books and online resources.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a desire to learn geometry before their scheduled class, seeking online resources to facilitate this.
  • Another participant suggests that trigonometry may be more crucial for understanding physics than geometry, recommending tutorials on both subjects.
  • A different participant emphasizes the importance of learning trigonometry and geometry as foundational skills for basic physics and calculus, cautioning against rushing into advanced physics without adequate preparation.
  • Several participants inquire about available online books for geometry.
  • One participant references Wikipedia pages for geometry and trigonometry, suggesting that they contain useful links for further exploration.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the importance of both geometry and trigonometry for learning physics, but there is a divergence in opinion regarding which subject should be prioritized. The discussion remains unresolved regarding specific book recommendations.

Contextual Notes

Some participants note the necessity of foundational knowledge in algebra before progressing to geometry and trigonometry, indicating a potential gap in the original poster's preparation for advanced topics.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in learning physics, particularly those seeking to strengthen their mathematical background in geometry and trigonometry.

I'm trying to leanr physics but i obviously need to know math. I already know algebra and I thought that I should learn geometry( it is my next year math class but i don't want to wait that long)and I want to know if there are any good books online that I could learn it and be able to do more advanced physics.

IMO, trigonometry is more important to learn for physics than geometry. Maybe read tutorials on both if you can -- that will give you a better background for learning non-calculus-based physics.

Learning trig (which you'll need some geometry to understand) is probably most important for basic physics and calculus after that (if you havn't taken a second-year algebra couse, that too). It seems like you are trying to move a bit too fast into undergrad-level physics, because you say "advanced physics". Don't be discouraged from learning math on your own but you'll have to start at the bottom like everyone else.

So are there any online books I could download for geometry?
