Lens to increase angular responsivity of optical sensor

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on increasing the angular responsivity of an optical sensor from +/-60 degrees to +/-80 degrees or more. Users are seeking guidance on selecting an appropriate lens to achieve this enhancement. The concept of angular responsivity is defined as the sensor's sensitivity to light from various angles. A simulator provided by Phet (http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/geometric-optics) is recommended for further exploration of lens design and optical principles.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of optical sensor specifications
  • Knowledge of lens design principles
  • Familiarity with angular responsivity concepts
  • Basic skills in using optical simulation tools
NEXT STEPS
  • Research specific lens types that enhance angular responsivity, such as aspheric or wide-angle lenses
  • Explore optical design software for simulating lens performance
  • Learn about the impact of lens coatings on light transmission and responsivity
  • Investigate the effects of sensor placement and alignment on angular responsivity
USEFUL FOR

Optical engineers, sensor designers, and researchers focused on enhancing the performance of optical sensors in various applications.

How to specify a lens to increase angular responsivity of optical sensor? Sensor I presently use has angular responsivity +/-60 degrees at 50% level and I would like to increase it to +/- 80 degrees at 50% level or more.

Which lens should I use?

Please advice on design guidance for this procedure.

PS: (Angular responsivity = Angle of acceptance =~ sensitivity of sensor to light arriving from different angles)

Here's a simulator you can run that might help find what you need.
