Lithium-ion batteries represent one of the greatest advances in energy storage. However, the transportation system is demanding more miles per charge. Tesla's 4680 cell has energy densities of 241 WH/Kg and 643 WH/L resulting in a 270 mile range. The Taiwanese company ProLogium has begun mass production of its Gen 3.5 ceramic Li-ion battery, which has energy densities of 381 WH/Kg and 903 Wh/L.

ProLogium's battery is considered solid-state but still contains an organic electrolyte. It is safer than standard Li-ion batteries since it replaces the plastic dendrite protection barrier with a ceramic barrier. Its Gen 4 battery will have an all inorganic electrolyte but will only require a 10% modification of its manufacturing infrastructure when it comes to production.
