Engineering Looking for a good book on Mechanical Vibration

AI Thread Summary
For those starting in Mechanical Vibration, classic texts by Timoshenko and Den Hartog are highly recommended for their comprehensive coverage and problem sets. It is advised to choose Timoshenko's 3rd edition or the 2nd edition, as later versions are considered inferior. WTThompson is also noted as a valuable author, with earlier editions preferred for their authenticity. These resources provide a solid foundation for practicing and understanding mechanical vibration concepts.

The classic texts by Timoshenko and by Den Hartog are very difficult to beat. (With Timoshenko, get the 3rd ed, or failing that the 2nd ed; nothing later as they are simply bastardized versions by others, trading on Timoshenko's name.)
WTThompson is also a good author, but again, get an earlier edition done by Thompson himself.

This thread only works as a summary from the original source: List of STEM Masterworks in Physics, Mechanics, Electrodynamics... The original thread got very long and somewhat hard to read so I have compiled the recommendations from that thread in an online (Google Drive) spreadsheet. SUMMARY Permits are granted so you can make comments on the spreadsheet but I'll initially be the only one capable of edition. This is to avoid the possibility of someone deleting everything either by mistake...
