"Solving algebraically" refers to finding solutions to equations using algebraic methods rather than numerical or trial-and-error approaches. This process involves manipulating expressions through operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and applying inverses such as taking roots. The discussion highlights the need for a clear definition, noting that it may imply expressing solutions in terms of given quantities. Examples of algebraic solutions could clarify this concept further. Overall, the term emphasizes systematic algebraic manipulation to derive solutions.

looking for an excellent definition of "solve algebraically"

I know what it means, you know what it means. I'm stumped though; I tried to find a definition for what it means by searching the internet, but can't find a definition anywhere.

Isn't this synonymous with, "Solve, using the methods of Algebra," in which case your question boils down to, "what is Algebra?"

Solve through a systematic method of algebraic manipulations, rather than numerical or trial methods.

this a little vague for me personally. can you give us an example?

maybe it is being used in the context of solving equations.

e.g. maybe it meNS THE SOLUTION VACAN BE EXPRESSED AS an expression involving certain given quantities, using algebriac operations such as +, - , . , /, and maybe their inverses, like taking roots?

Here is a little puzzle from the book 100 Geometric Games by Pierre Berloquin. The side of a small square is one meter long and the side of a larger square one and a half meters long. One vertex of the large square is at the center of the small square. The side of the large square cuts two sides of the small square into one- third parts and two-thirds parts. What is the area where the squares overlap?
