Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around identifying a vintage black and white movie that features a swimmer diving, particularly focusing on the concept of the arrow of time as depicted in the film. The scope includes historical references to physics-related media and the exploration of educational resources from the past.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Historical

Main Points Raised

  • One participant describes a movie that shows a swimmer diving and then reverses the sequence, illustrating the concept of the arrow of time.
  • Another participant mentions a series of videos from the 1960s by the Physical Science Study Committee (PSSC), suggesting that "Frames of Reference" is a notable physics video but is uncertain if it includes the desired film.
  • The original poster expresses gratitude for the suggestion and indicates they will check the provided list of videos.
  • The original poster later confirms that the sought-after movie is not part of the suggested videos and continues to search for it, specifying a timeframe of the late 1950s to early 1960s and reiterating the themes of the arrow of time and entropy.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the identity of the movie, and multiple competing views remain regarding the potential sources of the film.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks specific details about the movie's title, content, or availability, and relies on personal recollections and suggestions without definitive conclusions.

In discussing the arrow of time, the movie shows the swimmer diving and then shows the sequence in reverse so that the diver is seen going from the water back to the diving board. The movie was made decades ago; it's a black and white film, about an hour long. Anyone know the title or where I can get a copy?

Thank you SO much.

Will explore them and see if it's in that list of videos.
Much obliged.

Looked at them. The one I'm looking for is not there. I'll keep hunting. I believe it was made in the late 1950's or early '60's. Arrow of time, or entropy...
Thanks everyone for any further info.
