SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on master's programs in High Energy Physics (HEP) and Theoretical Physics in Europe, excluding the UK. Key institutions mentioned include Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich and ETH Zurich. Additional universities suggested are Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Dortmund, Hamburg, and Jena, all of which have notable HEP communities. The participant's academic credentials include a GPA of 7.9/10, a PGRE score of 980, and a TOEFL score of 107, indicating a strong application profile for these competitive programs.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of High Energy Physics (HEP) concepts
  • Familiarity with graduate admission processes in European universities
  • Knowledge of standardized tests such as GRE and TOEFL
  • Basic research experience in physics, particularly in Quantum Information
NEXT STEPS
  • Research master's programs in Theoretical Physics at Heidelberg University
  • Explore application requirements for ETH Zurich's HEP program
  • Investigate the HEP community and programs at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
  • Review admission statistics and profiles of successful applicants to similar programs
USEFUL FOR

Undergraduate students majoring in physics, prospective graduate students interested in High Energy Physics, and individuals seeking to understand the application landscape for theoretical physics master's programs in Europe.

Hi,
I am an undergraduate senior with physics major. I am searching for masters programme in HEP/Theoretical physics (in Europe but not in U.K). So far I have found these programs
1. (LMU) http://www.theorie.physik.uni-muenchen.de/TMP/about_us/index.html
2. (ETH+EP) http://hep.polytechnique.edu/home/admission/apply-at-ethz/

It would help me if I can get to know about more such programs where I can, now, apply.

Also, I would like to know my chances in getting into these programs.

GPA = 7.9/10
PGRE = 980
GRE
V:153
Q:165
W:3.5
TOEFL:107
One summer research in Quantum Information (no publication). Currently I am working on my thesis (in CMP).

Thanks

Most big universities should have theoretical high-energy physics master programmes - sometimes they just have a more general name.

LMU is certainly a good university, Heidelberg has a large HEP community (both experimental and theoretical), Karlsruhe, Dortmund, Hamburg and Jena could be interesting (just to name a few that came to my mind), and http://www.teilchenphysik.de/kontakte/uni__forschung/.
That is just Germany ;).
