1. A man leans down on a cane with a vertical axial force of 98 N. The narrowest part of the cane has a cross-sectional area of 4.0 cm2. What is the maximum compressive stress in the cane in MPa

3. I first changed 4.0cm^2 to .04m^2. I then took 98N/.04m^2 = 2450 Pa which equals .00245 MPa, but the answer is incorrect. Please let me know what I am missing. Thanks.

I first changed 4.0cm^2 to .04m^2.
To convert cm2 to m2, try it this way:

1 cm2 = (1/100m)2=0.0001 m2
