This thread features a personal narrative from a member named Lisab, discussing her unconventional educational journey, challenges faced while pursuing a degree in physics, and her life in the Pacific Northwest. The conversation includes reflections on non-traditional education paths, personal anecdotes, and humorous interactions among participants.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Conceptual clarification
  • Meta-discussion

Main Points Raised

  • Lisab describes her non-traditional education, dropping out of school in 8th grade and later returning to formal education at a community college.
  • She shares her initial interest in studying science, which shifted from Chemistry to Physics after a challenging experience in Physical Chemistry.
  • Challenges mentioned include taking classes out of sequence due to financial constraints and the long duration (9.5 years) it took to earn her BS in physics.
  • Lisab expresses empathy for non-traditional students based on her experiences and highlights her enjoyment of mentoring others in similar situations.
  • Participants engage with humor and personal anecdotes, referencing a Sisterhood meeting and a character named Borek, contributing to a light-hearted atmosphere.
  • One participant notes similarities between their own experiences and Lisab's, such as late learning of Algebra and transitioning from Chemistry to Physics.
  • Another participant expresses admiration for Lisab's perseverance in overcoming challenges to achieve her degree.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally express agreement on the value of Lisab's story and the challenges faced by non-traditional students. However, there is no consensus on the details of the humorous anecdotes shared, particularly regarding the Sisterhood meeting and Borek's involvement.

Contextual Notes

Personally I liked a picture she posted a long time ago (searched and searched to no avail) showing off her construction skills.
I think I recall a picture in a thread "show us where you work" or something like that o_O

I think it's best to wait and let her post it, if she remembers which one.

Lisa, as to your "report", I'm quite certain that no matter what anyone imagines the redacted parts to be, the reality is far worse.
Incidentally, I hope that the photo is really you, because it is now my desktop.
I'm 99.65% certain that the image is hers, based on the incidence of identical twins, and the person I met a few years back who claimed to be her, looked very similar to the image. Though she did have a strange accent.

hmmm... Is there an "Evil lisab" somewhere out there?

Got it.

With the exception of the siliconis upperfrontals, your version of her photo bears a disturbing resemblance to a biker that I know from the bar. oo)
