I need to move a block of steel 1.5 inches vertically, and another piece horizontally 3 inches. I was thinking magnetics. Are hydraulics viable? What else could work?
Moving steel blocks can be effectively achieved using hydraulic jacks and wooden beams, as demonstrated by professional riggers who successfully removed 70-ton steel flywheels. While magnetic methods can be employed, they pose safety risks and require cranes for operation. The use of hardwood dowels, similar to ancient techniques, provides a practical solution for both lifting and horizontal movement. For a 1.5-inch vertical lift and a 3-inch horizontal move, hydraulic systems combined with wooden supports are the most viable options.
