- book repositories
- journal repositories
- database repositories
- electronic material repositories
etc

for example, when you are looking for all possible books about a specific subject, you just search at amazon? or what else?

Yes, for book I guess Amazon is the best one. For Journals you would need a subscription to access the papers, but just to search try Google Scholar, or Microsoft Academic Search.
