System Of A Down's songs are often quite propulsive due to the time signatures (7/4, 9/8, etc). B.Y.O.B. is an excellent example (using 6/8, among others):

Maybe too old school for some of you... J Geils "Hard Drivin' Man"

not for me, though, probably older than you, this one just before yours in that old, great live album. :)

Speaking of J Geils band, check out Peter Wolf's new book, "Waiting on the Moon." Not much about Geils, but over the years Woofa Goofa met almost everyone you ever heard of. Each two or three page chapter describes his run-in with each character, from James Cotton to Alfred Hitchcock.

Book sounds good. Quite a guy, I read now, musician, late night DJ on Boston FM station, even married Faye Dunaway!! He was doing something right! Sure could talk fast. Great names: Peter Wolf, Woofa Goofa, harp player Magic Dick.

#96 the music and performance, although almost interesting (my reaction only), singer's voice reminds me of Janis joplin.

For something much more interesting, check the information in the wikipedia article about Susan Tedeschi.

Yes, thank you, you are right, I agree, very interesting bio. She's been singing and playing all her life, didn't know her history. I agree with her sounding a little like Janis Joplin. Wiki has it at the end of that bio as "Tedeschi's voice has been described as a blend of Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin," Strong voice, she can sing and really holler in tune.

Don't miss an opportunity to see Tedeschi-Trucks. They're amazing live.

A friend showed me these guys. This is the most hardcore and laid back drummer I've ever seen:

I see I’m a little behind here… EDIT: or not….

Stumbled over this one although I’m not completely sure I like it or not. If nothing else it has its own style.

Female vocals on hardcore metal is new to me though. It's growing on me though.

EDIT: Also it feels a little like we've come full circle to the OPs first post.... somehow.... although he might disagree.

EDIT2:

Totally unrelated, I sat down and learned Dire Straits' "You and Your Friend". After reading the lyrics more carefully it seems there's only one way to interpret that song:

An old perv is waiting for a couple for doing the nasty. The outcome is unknown.

That, err, took me a little by surprise...

Even though no one can deny Marcin is talented (and at that age even). It's just easy to get tired of his style IMO.

I like this one though, where he explains and shows he can play normally too (yeh, why shouldn't he be able to?):

I've probably posted this one before but he does somewhat the same. Marcin does it on western strings though. He must have some hardcore calloused skin on his fingers.

This might be a better example

(from #36 in the Talent Worthy thread)
When I Stopped My Show To Prove It Wasn't Fake - Marcin

because of an amusing set of recent videos by Sor Hands ranting on that particular video
  • EXPOSING Marcin's FAKE Tappy Guitar Playing
  • PROOF That Marcin Is FAKE (Once and for All)
  • I Can't BELIEVE Marcin Posted This

All right, so as you might have noticed,
I've been generating a little bit of drama because Marcin put out this video.
The whole point of the video was to prove that
he's actually playing everything that he's saying he's playing all at once.
And I just said, "You are for the most part."
Uh, except for this one part.
    You definitely overdubbed that.
And in the last video, I said that I was very confident about that. And I still am today.
    ....
But essentially, I just review actual live videos of Marcin and everything he's playing is legit and possible.
    And that's what I said.
And I said that in his new video that was mostly the case, except obviously it was like studio production.
And there were several tracks that were being layered together to create one song,
which by the way, I also said is normal. You do that in music.
The only weird part about it was saying at the end that all of this is played on one guitar at the same time.
  • (more Sor Hands on Marcin on his site)

Here is the recent response video from Marcin that prompted Sor Hands' last video

I stumbled upon the videos below (which I think are related to the drumming style here)
The takeaway from the above videos... it's not cheating.

I have a better appreciation for this drumming style.
There are no rules in music.

Miss World Chile Contestant Sings Death Metal
Nov 6, 2025

🤯 Miss World Chile contestant Ignacia Fernández sang death metal at the semifinal, earning a standing ovation and a spot among the top 20 in the final, which will be held this Sunday, November 9th. In addition to being a model, Fernández fronts the Chilean progressive death-metal band Decessus.

I don't think the song above has been released yet.
The complete performance is in the Instagram post above.

Yes, but it doesn't have a beat you can dance to! :) Listened to it without the video and not near as captivating. You've got me liking some heavy metal I never listened to, however, but probably not growl metal. Lyrics often good, e.g., "I am a Viking." , "Roboto", lots of good stuff. Thank you very much, musicologist member.

Wow. I thought this thread died completely but I'm the one who's been neglecting it. Stumbled over this one (looks like they're having tryouts):

Ah well, maybe it died a little but here's some CPR then.
