SUMMARY

The NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) data site has been down since the government shutdown, halting updates of daily solar photos. Users have expressed frustration over the lack of information regarding the site's restoration. Alternatives such as the European Space Agency (ESA) and the SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) site are suggested for similar solar observations. The discussion highlights the importance of decentralized resources for solar data access.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of solar observation tools and techniques
  • Familiarity with NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)
  • Knowledge of the European Space Agency (ESA) resources
  • Basic awareness of government shutdown impacts on scientific data services
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the ESA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) website for solar images
  • Research alternative decentralized solar observation platforms
  • Monitor updates on the NASA SDO data site for restoration timelines
  • Investigate the impact of government funding on scientific data availability
USEFUL FOR

Astronomers, solar physicists, educators, and anyone interested in solar observation and the implications of government funding on scientific resources.

TL;DR
I like to look at sun spot photos but site has been down.

Since the government shutdown this site stopped updating photos of the sun and now they seem to have server issues. I like looking at the day to day photos of the sun, but they still haven't gotten up and running again. Does anyone know when they might be back to normal?

Does the ESA from Europe have a similar site for their solar observations?

What is there website? Same type of sun images comparable to a telephoto lens and solar filter?

Thanks. Hopefully eveeything gets funded again soon.
You are welcome. I hope so as well. What I have started to realize is that it is best to rely on decentralized stuff or European products instead.
