SUMMARY

The forum discussion revolves around naming a pet spider, specifically a Tegenaria domestica, which is approximately 2.5 inches across and has not made a web. Participants suggest various names such as Rutherford Jimmy, Death, and Anansi, while also discussing how to determine the spider's sex, noting that females are generally larger than males. The conversation highlights the humorous and lighthearted nature of naming pets, even those that evoke fear, such as spiders. Additionally, there are references to the participants' personal experiences with spiders and their preferences for naming conventions.

The spider should be named Boris, after the song by Who.

"The spider who once lived in my cupboard, but then I killed." <- This should be its name.

Too big to kill? I would think it would be too big to trap and take outside!
I had to use a bowl, a glass would have been too small. I'll post a picture.

And just so you spider haters know, I refuse to kill spiders. I actually schedule them for massages at the local spa and play pleasant music to help them get to sleep. I regularly have spider only parties and hook the single spiders up with each other so there will be even MORE spiders in the world! Soon my plan will come to fruition...and it involves Evo. Even though she doesn't know it yet.

How about Octavian for a male and Octaviette for a female.

It's hard to tell how big it is. Could you put it on your hand for reference? o:)

I had a huge orb-weaver near my computer-desk one summer. Luckily, she was on the outside of my window. Her abdomen was almost as big as a mothball. I called her Bugsy, not because she was a bug, but because our biggest, heaviest ferret was Bugsy, and she was certainly a stand-out in the size arena.

Since spiders have 8 legs, I would like to call her Octomom or Nadya Suleman...

Here is my Boris.

Name your spider Reginald, Archibald, or Clarence.

  • #46
Not Archibald. That name was poisoned in Rob Roy.

Seriously...
That spider is big enough that if I were to see it I probably would resort to irrational ways of killing it. Like throwing my copy of Moby Dick from across the room.

That bowl would never come into my house again.

I once had to kill a spider roughly the size of a loonie (eh?) on my bathroom wall. I was shaky for about an hour afterwards. I do wish I could get over my arachnophobia, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

This is how we used to catch the cockroaches in our college shack and take them to the catercorner neighboring house's porch (after they offended us with loud parties with highly annoying music and trash).

Parker? Or maybe Anansi? I was trying to think of a good wolramism for a name, maybe something like Skitchy.

Anansi the Spider was one of my favorite stories when I was little. I think it's an excellent name for a spider.

I really do not follow your thinking, but as it must be better than mine Skitchy sounds fine :approve:

You could just step on him and call him Spot.

  • #57
If your spider is clever, you could call him Algernon.
