Hi all. I'm a newbie to the group. I've studied a little, over a above my sheetmetal trade of more than 30 years now. I've always been TIG welding and fabricating Stainless Steel and Aluminium. Working for myself now and have been at different times before, for about 12 years of my 30 in the trade. Current business is DH Development here in Townsville, Queensland, Australia.

I just bought a TIG welder, and am attempting to learn how to weld aluminum (US spelling). So far, I've just melted a lot of scrap aluminum or made some terrible looking beads. It's kind of like the old saying -- How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice. There's a real trick to welding aluminum...

I also have a MIG welder and have done a couple of small projects with it, including a support bracket for the muffler on one of my motorcycles.

Good to hear from you Mark44.
Happy to shed light on your learning of TIG welding if you need it. If you take photos, I can tell you what you are doing right and/or wrong. Just not sure how strict the mediators are on this forum regarding issues outside physics and math.

The forum is open to lots of other areas besides physics and math, so it won't be a problem.
