AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around promotional offers for student subscriptions to a news outlet, highlighting a monthly rate of $2 for the first year and an annual rate of $24, both offering the same effective cost of 50 cents per week. After the first year, the subscription price increases to $4 per month for students. The conversation also touches on pricing strategies observed in supermarkets, such as misleading bulk offers, and suggests using a plugin to access major newspapers for free, implying a workaround to avoid subscription costs. The commentary critiques pricing tactics that may confuse consumers, emphasizing the importance of transparency in advertising.

Monthly Offer
$2/month for 1 Year
(That's just 50¢ a week for the first year)
Then $4 per month as long as you’re a student
BEST-VALUE - SAVE 50%

Annual Offer
$24 for 1 Year
(That's just 50¢ a week for the first year)
Then $4 per month as long as you’re a studenthttps://store.wsj.com/shop/us/us/wsjstudentfallbts24/?&icid=WSJ_ON_NA_ACQ_NA

I recently found a supermarket offering an "any three for £6" on bottles of beer. Price for one? £1.80.

To be fair, some of the types in the offer were £2+. Just not the one I wanted...

Numeracy dies in darkness.

Well, both the monthly and annual have the same monthly rate. Here is the simple solution: Just use a plugin to get all major newspapers for $0.00/yr, that's $0.00 per week, or basically an infinite percentage off. Not gonna say the plugin name, for obvious reasons, but it can be attached to an ad blocker. :)

Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
