For the general part of the problem, just do a google search on the words:

oxidation of pyrite in acid sulphate soils

and see what references from the research literature pop up. Most or all of the references should give a pointer to reviews of the subject that will deal with the measurement problem. You can base your assignment on what you find in the reviews, but be sure to acknowledge them correctly!
