Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the suitability of parkour for tall men, examining the potential risks and benefits associated with height in this physical activity. Participants explore the implications of body mass and height on performance and injury risk.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants question whether parkour is suitable for tall men, considering the potential for increased injury risk due to a lower bearing surface to body mass ratio.
  • One participant suggests that being tall may actually be advantageous for reaching over longer distances during parkour movements.
  • Another participant counters that the increased weight associated with height could lead to a higher likelihood of fractures when falling from heights.
  • A participant shares a personal perspective, expressing a fear of falling and a decision to avoid parkour due to their height (6'5").
  • A reference to the square-cube law is provided, although its relevance to the discussion is not elaborated upon.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the advantages and disadvantages of being tall in parkour, indicating that the discussion remains unresolved with multiple competing perspectives.

Contextual Notes

Participants do not clarify the assumptions underlying their claims, such as the specific mechanics of parkour or the definitions of risk and injury in this context.

Is parkour suitable for tall men to practice? Will it add larger probability to tall men to get hurt considering taller men has lower bearing surface to body mass ratio?

The last applied to me, I had to google it. I think it will be easier if you are tall, as you can more easily reach over longer distances.

The taller you are the more easily you can reach over longer distances, but the heavier weight will impact your legs when you jump. I think tall people are more likely to get fratured bones when we falling from a high site. I'm 6'5, and I would avoid to do such things cause I awlays have a terrior of falling.
