I'm in a wide open space

This week, show me photos of any wide-open space.

Contest Rules:

1. Any digital photo or digitally-scanned photo relevant to the theme will be accepted within the contest period. In case there's a gray area, or you're not sure if the picture is suitable, check with me first.

2. Please resize your digital photo to no more than 650 x 490 or 490 x 650 pixels. You may also crop your picture if you wish. You are also allowed to adjust the brightness and contrast of your picture but these should not dramatically alter the look of the picture. But other than those, any form of picture editing or modification is not allowed. This is a photo contest, not a picture editing/special effect contest. You may add a watermark or your name/nickname to the photo for identification purposes.

3. Upload your photos to any of the photo servers such as imageshack or photobucket. Then post it the relevant contest thread and link your picture using the img command. PM me if you do not know how.

4. Only ONE picture per member per contest. Once a picture is posted, it cannot be changed other than a total withdrawl by that member from that week's photo contest. Exceptions will be made for modification to comply with the rules, such as resizing.

5. At the end of the contest period, I will open a poll and every PF member can vote for the picture they like best.

6. Note that in case we have a large number of entries, I will do the polling in more than one thread. If that's the case, you can vote in each of the polling threads. The photos will be assigned in the polling threads in the order they were submitted.

7. These pictures must be something that you took, not something taken off someone else's photo albums or taken by someone else. I have no way of checking if you did this, so we'll go by the honor system.

8. You can use a picture only once. Once it is used in a contest, it cannot be reused in another contest.

9. Please post only pictures meant for submission in this thread.

Well this is going to be a tough contest. What happened to the trees in your picture ZZ?

  • #9
They got burnt due to a recent forest fire, I think.

For me they look as either dead because of pollution (acid rains) or because of bug attack, or because of both (the latter induced by the first).

See

http://archiwum.wiz.pl/1997/97062200.asp

sorry, it is in Polish. Scroll down, there is a tiny image of the dead forest that you can click to get larger version. This is forest in Polish part of Sudety monutains, killed by acid rains (several coal power plants nearby).

Or compare

not far from the same place.

Sure, I can be wrong.

Turbo, I want your 30D, I want it now

Which one? I have two, so I can keep more than one lens mounted at a time and minimize sensor-dirt.

Lacy, please read contest rules in the first post of the thread. Your picture is too large.

Sorry, I don't know anything about sizing. Thanks

No need to remove it from the contest. At least some (probably most) picture sharing services allow you to resize the picture automatically, you just have to select what size do you want the picture to be displayed in. I think it was discussed in some earlier contest threads.

Sorry, I can't be of more help, as I have no experience with these services. But it is definitely possible and not difficult.

Photobucket has resizing options, and one of them results in photos that are 640 pixels in the longer dimension. Just right for these contests.

Thank you Borek and turbo-1, I tried resizing a while ago on that site at that size and I hope it's OK now.

Lacy, if you are using Photobucket, click on the bottom link under your picture (Image tag) and paste that into your post, so everyone can see your image without clicking on a link. It might make things easier on matthyaouw, as he builds the poll for the vote. Nice picture, BTW.

Size looks OK, you just should now incoporate the picture in your post. Do it this way:

http:/ /i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff109/Lacy33_2007/01420026.jpg

Just remove space between slashes after http.

Edit: Turbo was faster, what he wrote basically leads to the same final effect.

Well yeah! That was team success. Thank you it was a lot of fun. Let's do it AGAIN!~ Whoopie!
Now comes voting time and I have to be honest, hard as I tried out there on the beach alone there all by myself alone... I kept pushing the camera button and running off into the distance to catch me alone but never did get a very good picture.
Also there was a Cape May patrolman watching me from the boardwalk there and I know from stories scarier than the ghosts that Cape May folk don't suffer fools.
I think Monique! captured the theme best. I just can not figure out how she got out there THAT far into the water. Good for you Monique. You have my vote.

Sorry Red Rum, you just missed out. I started the polling thread a few hours ago. For next time, please post your entry directly into the thread in [img ] [/ img] tags. It makes the voting easier.

Nice pic Lacy33. I'm glad you got it sorted out in time

Ha-ha.! "sourted" out, so I have a LITTLE temper. It's not like it's a secret. But I can't play with anything harder than a cotton ball.
I still figure out how to get sour grapes into them.
This was a fun learning experience and I didn't realize until I happen to be at another computer today that the photos can be seen on the threads. Will wait and ask "computer genius son" how to enable this computer to show that.
