Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The thread invites participants to share photographs from their summer holidays, including past trips, and to discuss their experiences related to these locations. The focus is on personal travel experiences and the sharing of visual memories through a photo contest format.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Meta-discussion

Main Points Raised

  • Participants share various photographs from their summer holidays, including locations like Yosemite National Park, Tsomgo Lake in India, and Lake Constanz in Germany.
  • Some participants express dissatisfaction with the contest theme, suggesting that it lacks creativity and that certain subjects (like children and pets) have an unfair advantage in photo contests.
  • There are discussions about the technical aspects of photo submissions, including resizing and uploading images correctly to comply with contest rules.
  • One participant mentions a photo taken during an internship at Argonne National Lab, indicating a lack of a vacation this summer.
  • Another participant shares a photo from a family reunion on the Columbia River, emphasizing the importance of family gatherings.
  • There are multiple comments on the quality and originality of submitted photos, with some participants encouraging others to be more creative.
  • Some participants engage in light-hearted banter about the exoticness of their locations, with references to popular attractions like Disneyland and Animal Kingdom.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing opinions on the creativity of the contest and the types of photos submitted. While some appreciate the variety of locations, others feel that certain subjects dominate the contest unfairly. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the perceived creativity of the entries.

Contextual Notes

Participants are reminded of the contest rules regarding photo submissions, including size limitations and the requirement for original photos. Some technical challenges related to image posting are noted, but no consensus on the quality of submissions is reached.

Greg, can you post your pic in IMG tags? I can't post attachments to the voting thread.

Nice entries guys. Junglebeast, I really like yours. It's so unusual. Not the norm. I like Binzing's cascade of sand too. That's a gorgeous scene Borek. And Maroc, I'm glad you managed to sort your entry out. It looks really imposing from that angle.

I've just got back from a couple of nights in Whitby, North Yorkshire and have a couple of potential entries from there. My first choice features a friend so I'm waiting for her to OK it before showing the world her picture.

I must admit my picture looks much better when seen large (like 1280x1024 on my monitor) and the effect depends on the brightness. I have two monitor setup here, and the difference - while barely visible in my normal work with text/programming - is huge. Slightly darker version looks completely from the other world.

Have you spotted four birds on the picture, just in the center?

I believe it...it's a major annoyance for me, because presentation makes such a huge difference I think...even a "minor" adjustment like 800 down to 640 can sometimes seem to turn gold into ****

Anyway, I found all 7 birds ;)

Why not give a text link to a larger version? I'd love to see how they look big
