B Plasma recovery at wakefield accelerators

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on the feasibility of maintaining plasma ionization indefinitely in plasma wakefield accelerators without additional heating. Key concerns include methods to prevent plasma escape, with magnetic confinement being a potential solution, although questions arise about the behavior of non-ionized gas. The impact of solid windows on beam integrity and secondary radiation is also debated, highlighting potential damage risks. Additionally, strategies for quickly recovering and refilling ionized gas are explored. Overall, the conversation emphasizes the technical challenges and considerations in optimizing plasma confinement and stability in accelerator environments.

Is it possible to keep the plasma ionized almost indefinitely. No additional heating is required.

How to prevent the plasma in the plasma wakefield accelerator from escaping? If it is magnetic confinement, it is not always necessary to supply the gas to keep it ionized, and will the gas that is not ionized still escape. If it is a solid window, won't the beam passing through the window cause damage and secondary radiation? Or is there any way to quickly recover and fill the ionized gas.

So I know that electrons are fundamental, there's no 'material' that makes them up, it's like talking about a colour itself rather than a car or a flower. Now protons and neutrons and quarks and whatever other stuff is there fundamentally, I want someone to kind of teach me these, I have a lot of questions that books might not give the answer in the way I understand. Thanks
