AI Thread Summary
Choosing between a major in computer science or mathematics can significantly impact future graduate school and job opportunities. It's advisable to consult with undergraduate advisors from both departments to gain insights tailored to individual career goals. Professional organizations such as the American Mathematical Society and the Association for Computing Machinery can provide valuable information about career paths in both fields. While some suggest double majoring to maximize opportunities, others caution that it can be challenging, especially for students already feeling overwhelmed with their current coursework. Taking summer classes is proposed as a potential solution to manage the workload of a double major.

This would be the perfect question to ask the undergraduate advisor of the appropriate program. Give their office a call and set up a meeting with both of the advisors.
In addition, take a look at these professional organizations, they should give you some sort of idea about what mathematicians and computer scientists do:

A little background reading before your meetings:
American Mathematical Society: http://www.ams.org/
Mathematical Association of America: http://www.maa.org

American Association for Artificial Intelligence: http://www.aaai.org/
Association for Computing Machinery: http://info.acm.org/
IEEE Computer Society: http://www.computer.org/portal/site/ieeecs/index.jsp
Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics: http://www.siam.org/

Double majoring is a really good idea, but imat the university if the chicago, and I'm allready stressed out a lot with just 3 classes.
Trying to double major would be extremely difficult.

eh.. you just take summer classes.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
