AI Thread Summary
New posts are initially invisible until a moderator approves them, which is a temporary measure for new users. This approval process is in place due to recent issues with hacked accounts posting spam. After a certain number of posts, this requirement will cease. Questions about using the forums can be directed to the Feedback forum. The aggressive filter is intended to maintain the integrity of the community.

I have noticed that whenever I post something that the post is invisible at first until a moderator approves it. What is the deal with this, e.g. is it a temporary thing for new users or the regular state of affairs? Further, while I am at it, is this the appropriate place to as questions about using the forums?

It's temporary for new users. After some number of posts it should stop happening.

We’ve recently been hit by hacked accounts posting porn spam, so the automated “hold for approval” filter has been set to be unusually aggressive.

Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
