Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the pump probe spectroscopy technique, with participants seeking introductory resources and exploring its applications, particularly in studying nanocrystals (NCs). The conversation includes requests for explanations, references to literature, and inquiries about specific methodologies.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests a brief description of pump probe techniques and introductory resources.
  • Another participant shares a link to an article as a resource.
  • A suggestion is made to search for free articles online, along with a recommendation for a specific book on laser spectroscopy that covers time-resolved techniques.
  • There is a question about the application of pump probe methods to study nanocrystals.
  • A participant clarifies that "NCs" refers to nanocrystals.
  • Another participant proposes that transient-absorption spectroscopy is a commonly used method for studying nanocrystals but expresses uncertainty and seeks verification and additional methods.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not appear to reach a consensus on the specific methods used for studying nanocrystals, and there is uncertainty regarding the application of pump probe techniques in this context.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions about the familiarity with pump probe techniques and nanocrystals may not be explicitly stated. The discussion includes varying levels of expertise among participants.

Hello there !

I am looking for a brief description of a pump probe technique. I am rather new to this subject, so I am interesting in such a good introductory articles or books. Your own explanations are always welcome ;)

Since you seem to be interested in free articles, why not give google a try? I just try typing "pump-probe spectroscopy" and I got some things that you may be interested in. As for books, I only know "Laser Spectroscopy Volume 2" by Demtroeder. This book specializes in exploring various experimental techniques using lasers, some of which involve time-resolved techniques. Chapter 6 might be what you are looking for.

Any ideas how these methods can be applied to study NCs?

If you tell me what an NC is, maybe.

NCs mean Nanocrystals in that case

Rebound, I think that the most used pomp and probe method to study NCs is Transient-absorption spectroscopy, but I am not quite sure. Could anybody verify this, and maybe know any other methods?
