SUMMARY

The ebook "Superstring" by Joseph Polchinski is not available for free online and must be purchased. The discussion highlights the two volumes of "String Theory" authored by Polchinski, which cover advanced topics such as Type-I and Type-II superstrings, heterotic strings, superstring interactions, and D-branes. While scanned versions exist, the consensus is that acquiring the official textbooks is recommended for serious study.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with advanced physics concepts, particularly in string theory.
  • Understanding of mathematical frameworks used in theoretical physics.
  • Knowledge of academic publishing and copyright issues regarding textbooks.
  • Experience with online academic resources, such as arXiv.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the official purchase options for "String Theory Vol 1" and "String Theory Vol 2" by Polchinski.
  • Explore the arXiv paper referenced: http://arxiv.org/abs/hep-th/9709062 for foundational concepts in string theory.
  • Study the mathematical techniques used in string theory to enhance comprehension of the subject.
  • Investigate online forums or communities focused on string theory for additional resources and discussions.
USEFUL FOR

Students and researchers in theoretical physics, particularly those specializing in string theory, as well as educators seeking comprehensive resources for advanced physics courses.

I'm not familiar with it. Polchinski had written a textbook on String Theory, but to my knowledge it is not avaible online, you have to pay for it. Could you give me any more information?

EDIT : You may want to try http://arxiv.org/abs/hep-th/9709062 though.

The books are:
String Theory Vol 1 (Polchinski J)
String Theory Vol 2 (Polchinski J)

There are two volumes. Some of the chapters:

1. Type-I and Type-II syperstrings,
2. The heterotic string
3. Superstring interaction
4. D-Branes
...

These books are quite nice and understandable. A lot of math and physics, I think it more suitable for advanced reader, not a beginner.
I have them as scanned e-books, but I would like to do an exchange, because if you really want them - buy them, I did :)
