Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around strategies and tips for achieving high scores in the Red Balls Game, a puzzle game that involves manipulating balls based on certain rules. Participants share their experiences, challenges, and potential mathematical frameworks that could aid in solving the game.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests that group theory may be relevant to solving the game but admits to a lack of understanding.
  • Another participant shares a link to an article that discusses the application of groups in understanding the game better.
  • A participant mentions successfully reducing the number of balls to one but cannot recall the method used.
  • One user reports technical issues with the game, stating that they can start a new game but cannot move the balls.
  • Another participant expresses difficulty in leaving eight balls, speculating that the final formation might involve a line of balls on one edge and noting that the starting position of the missing ball varies.
  • One participant shares their progress, stating they managed to get down to seven balls but not eight.
  • A later reply humorously notes achieving a score of ten balls remaining.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express various challenges and successes, but there is no consensus on a definitive strategy or solution for achieving high scores in the game. Multiple competing views and experiences are present.

Contextual Notes

Some participants mention uncertainty regarding the final configurations needed to win and the variability of the starting positions, which may affect the ability to achieve certain scores.

Does anyone know how to solve this game:
http://www.puzzlechoice.com/pc/IQ_Gamex.html

as in the highest and second hisghest scores.

I am sure there's group theory somewhere, but I never got it...

I managed to just do it to get down to one, but I can't remember how!

It doesn't work on my computer. Can start a new game but can't move the balls.

Hmm, can't figure out how to leave 8. It shouldn't be too hard, since you are only allowed 6 moves to do it. I don't know what the end formation should look like, but probably will have a line of balls on one edge (when I won with only one ball, I had a "triangle of side length 3" in the bottom corner and another on the top and finished from there).

Also, the missing ball seems to start at different places each time, so whether you can win may be based on that.

Argh, managed to get 7, but not 8.

Nm, just done it, with 10 balls left lol!
