Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around suggestions for research topics related to "nanostructured materials for solar energy conversion." Participants explore the challenges of finding new and interesting topics within this field, particularly in the context of guidance from academic supervisors.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a desire to explore new topics in nanostructured materials for solar energy conversion, having previously focused on lithium batteries.
  • Another participant questions the communication between the original poster and their supervisor, suggesting that the supervisor may not be providing adequate guidance.
  • There is a challenge regarding the accuracy of statements made about the supervisor's feedback, with some participants indicating that the original poster's claims may not align with reality.
  • Concerns are raised about the feasibility of suggesting topics without knowing the original poster's specific interests or background.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the effectiveness of the original poster's communication with their supervisor, and there are differing opinions on the value of suggestions from an online forum compared to those from a supervisor.

Contextual Notes

The discussion highlights limitations in understanding the original poster's interests and the context of their research, as well as the potential for miscommunication regarding supervisor feedback.

I have selected a topic for my research work which is "nanostructured materials for solar energy conversion" I have read many of articles, most of which are about Li batteries but I want to do something new. Anyone who's in this field suggests something new.

He did not say anything. I said to my supervisor that I want to search for a new topic and to do new work he appreciates.. so that's why I am asking for suggestion:smile:

Are you having communication problems with your supervisor, or is he mute?

Did you ask him what you asked here, i.e. "... I want to study nanostructured materials for solar energy conversion... do you have a suggestion on new topics in this area?" And then he didn't say ANYTHING to you?

Either I find this hard to believe, or you should be looking for a different supervisor.

of course, he suggested me new topics for my research work. But I am looking for more topic that might be interesting for me. so am asking here.

Then you shouldn't have said that "He did not say anything", because that is a false statement.

But I am looking for more topic that might be interesting for me. so am asking here.

Unfortunately, since we don't know you, it is almost impossible to suggest a topic that "... might be interesting.." for you. Considering that your supervisor knows this topic, I would pay more weight on his suggestion than from what you gather off an online forum.
