{Rocks} difference between sandstone and slate?

AI Thread Summary
Sandstone is classified as a sedimentary rock, primarily composed of silica, while slate is a metamorphic rock formed from mudstone under high temperature and pressure, consisting mainly of clay. Both rocks are stratified, but their formation processes differ significantly. Visually distinguishing between the two can be challenging, as both can appear similar in pictures. Key characteristics of sedimentary rocks include their formation through weathering and compaction of existing materials, resulting in a fine-grained texture. Understanding these differences aids in identifying rocks by appearance and texture.

Homework Statement

sandstone is a sedimentary rocks while slate is a metamorphic rock come from mud stone with a high temperature and pressure, they are both stratified rocks, while chemically slates compose of Argil i.e Clay, while silica is the main ingredients of sandstone,
my question is : how can we make the difference by just look ?

What's one of the key characteristics of sedimentary rocks? How are these types of rock formed?

sedimentary rocks formed due to weathering action of water, wind and frost on existing rocks generally uniform, fine grained and compact

And how do these bits of existing rock collect before being turned into a sedimentary rock? What is the chief feature of their appearance?

Hint: It's OK to look at pictures of rocks on the internet. ;)

by look by touch
it's hard difficult to notice the difference in pictures u can try that

I don't get how to argue it. i can prove: evolution is the ability to adapt, whether it's progression or regression from some point of view, so if evolution is not constant then animal generations couldn`t stay alive for a big amount of time because when climate is changing this generations die. but they dont. so evolution is constant. but its not an argument, right? how to fing arguments when i only prove it.. analytically, i guess it called that (this is indirectly related to biology, im...
