Discussion Overview

The discussion centers on the comparison between Ryerson University and the University of Toronto regarding their aerospace engineering programs. Participants explore the merits of each institution, the availability of aerospace engineering as a discipline in Canada, and the implications of choosing one university over the other.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants question the academic merits of Ryerson University for aerospace engineering, suggesting that comparisons to the University of Toronto are challenging.
  • One participant notes that U of T's aerospace engineering is part of a well-regarded engineering science program, implying a potential advantage.
  • Another participant mentions that while many Canadian universities offer engineering programs, aerospace engineering is less common compared to mechanical, chemical, and civil engineering.
  • There is a suggestion that rankings may not provide a complete picture of what students want to know about the programs.
  • Concerns are raised about job prospects for Ryerson graduates, but one participant argues that attending Ryerson does not necessarily preclude future employment opportunities.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the quality of Ryerson's aerospace engineering program compared to U of T, indicating that the discussion remains unresolved with multiple competing perspectives.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the lack of specific information about Ryerson's program and the reliance on general perceptions rather than detailed comparisons. The discussion also reflects uncertainty about the implications of university choice on future employment.

Who May Find This Useful

Would you have to do the slush crawl? I'm afraid I can't comment on the academic merits.

I don't know about Ryerson's Engineering program. UofT's Aerospace engineering is part of EngSci and EngSci is pretty famous in Canada.

Its really hard to compare. So don't take the link seriously.

If a school is licensed to teach engineering it must offer what you want.

I haven't seen many universities in Canada which offer programs like aerospace engineering. Usually they offer mech., chem., civil and the like. Automotive and aerospace are not wide spread.

You can always look at the rankings, but does that really tell you what you want to know?

So will going to Ryerson mean that you won't be able to get a job in the future? No.
