AI Thread Summary
The discussion highlights skepticism about the viability of certain energy sources, particularly nuclear reactors adapted from naval technology. It points out that these naval reactors use highly enriched uranium, which raises concerns about potential misuse for weapons. The conversation questions the credibility of those advocating for this adaptation, suggesting they lack understanding of the differences between power and naval reactor technologies. Financial media is identified as a source of this argument, indicating a disconnect between military and civilian energy applications. The overall sentiment is that the enthusiasm for these energy solutions is diminishing, with significant challenges remaining.

The hype seems to be evaporating - unfortunately it does not appear these will be a viable energy source anytime soon

She does not mention the common argument that one can just adapt the reactors used in naval vessels. However these reactors use highly enriched U ~20% that could in the wrong hands be used to make weapons. Cost is also not a factor for military vessels.

Just who is making this "common argument"?

I'm guessing people who understand neither power reactor nor naval reactor technology.

Another <splat!> Here's a video.

If the video isn't worth the time to summarize, why is it worth the time to watch?

Hello, I'm currently trying to compare theoretical results with an MCNP simulation. I'm using two discrete sets of data, intensity (probability) and linear attenuation coefficient, both functions of energy, to produce an attenuated energy spectrum after x-rays have passed through a thin layer of lead. I've been running through the calculations and I'm getting a higher average attenuated energy (~74 keV) than initial average energy (~33 keV). My guess is I'm doing something wrong somewhere...
